[nylug-talk] CD-R as archival media

In my experience with different brands of CDR blanks I've only had one
brand that hasn't given me a single problem: Mitsui Gold. According to
their marketing hype they will last upwards of 300 years! I use them
exclusively for any data I want to archive on CD, including audio. With
important data I burn two copies and store in safe, separate places.

I was very involved in etree.org trading of music and went through tons
of these disks. Other brands I tried had all gone south in one way or
another over time. Although they do cost quite a bit more than most
others I feel they are well worth it. I've ordered them from
American-Digital in the past, (www.am-dig.com) and have been very happy
with their service, and since they are located in CT I get next day
shipping via UPS ground.

In the etree community, Kodak gold disks were also very highly regarded
but iirc are no longer available.
