I am about to build a new server. I have several drives some with a speed
of 7200 rpm and some 5500 rpm. Does anyone out there have a recommendation
of what I should put on which kind of drive to maximize performance. I
mean I know that content for the web server or databases should go on a
7200 rpm slice to reduce seek time but what can I get away with putting on
a 5500 rpm disk (/var comes to mind although a lot of writes are done to
/var)? In the grand scheme of things it may not make much difference
because the machine will not get all that much traffic (a personal server/X
workstation) but if I can squeeze even the slightest improvement out of it
I want to do it.
