How about just using a normal PCI IDE card and using md? The cheaper 
"hardware" RAID solutions really do it all in firmware/software anyway, 
and the performance hit for a RAID 1 configuration is minimal to point 
of invisibility.

I've found md to be super stable and really, really easy to configure.
