I have never used the app before (and it may be over-kill for just one 
or two graphics) but I have heard wonderful things from my publishing 
friends about scribus http://web2.altmuehlnet.de/fschmid/ .

In particular I *think* you can type out your text and then use the 
style menu to change the shape from straight line to curved. You can 
also save the text into any number of formats, I know you can use PNG, 
JPEG, and PDF.
